When Study Stress Needs More Than a Revision Plan

Exam nerves are normal. When stress starts to affect sleep, focus, or attendance, students may need support beyond a better study schedule.
Online school gives students flexibility, but it can also make exam pressure feel lonelier. There is no classroom next door, and it is easy to sit with worry for hours after a live lesson ends.
A revision plan still matters: short sessions, past papers, and a fixed sleep time. For most students, that is enough. The line to watch is persistence. If a student cannot sleep, skips classes, or feels stuck for more than a couple of weeks, pushing harder at the same notes rarely fixes it.
What usually helps first
- Keep study blocks to 25–40 minutes, then stand up and leave the screen.
- Name the worry in one sentence: “I am afraid of the physics paper,” not “I am failing everything.”
- Tell a parent, supervisor, or teacher early. Silence makes the load heavier.
- Protect sleep. Tired students read the same page and remember none of it.
When talking to a professional is useful
Athena teachers and supervisors can help with attendance, homework, and exam technique. They are not a substitute for a licensed therapist when anxiety, low mood, or panic is getting in the way of daily life.
Families who want a private online conversation can use Shezlong. Sessions are remote, so a student in the Gulf or at home in Egypt can talk without travelling. If Arabic is easier, use the Arabic page.
This is optional support, not a school requirement. The useful test is simple: if study tips are in place and the student is still not coping, bring in someone trained to listen.
For parents
Do not turn every evening into a lecture about grades. Ask how the day felt. If the answer is always “fine” but marks, sleep, or attendance are slipping, take that seriously. Offer help, then let the student choose whether to talk to family, school, or a therapist.
A calmer student learns more. The goal is not a perfect timetable. It is a student who can sit down, try the work, and still have a way out when the pressure is too much.
